This evergreen shrub has dark green, leathery, holly-like leaves. The leaves have sharp spines on the margins. Groups of bright orange flowers are produced in spring and sometimes again in autumn. Large clusters of small, blue-black fruits follow the flowers. Berberis darwinii could be used to create an evergreen hedge.
