This evergreen shrub is grown primarily for its foliage and its architectural structure. The thick leathery dark green leaves resemble hands. White/cream flowers are produced in Autumn followed by black, rounded fruits. Fatsia japonica is native to Japan and S.Korea. It is important to shelter this plant from cold, drying winds. It is therefore best suited to an enclosed area eg a walled or courtyard garden.
