The Smoke bush gets its name from the clusters of grey-white, tiny flowers that, from a distance, look a bit like smoke. The flowers are produced in summer. Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’ is a deciduous shrub, it has dark purple, rounded leaves that turn scarlet-red before they drop in autumn.
