This perennial has interesting spherical flowerheads that can be white, grey or blue in colour, often taking on a metallic appearance. The flowers are produced from mid-late summer, they make an unusual addition to any summer flower arrangement as they are suitable for cutting.
The flowers are held high above the leaves on tall, upright flower stalks. Echinops foliage is thistle-like, it is divided, jagged and often spiny. Over time Echinops will form a clump.
It is a good choice of plant for the wildlife garden because the flowers attract butterflies and bees.
