Galega officinalis is a herbaceous perennial and a member of the pea and bean family. It has mid-green leaves that are split into leaflets. Galega officinalis needs staking, especially on rich soil where it will grow vigorously. Galega officinalis has fragrant flowers that vary in colour, they can be white, mauve, lilac or purple. The flowers are produced over a long period during summer and into autumn.
