A vigorous evergreen shrub with lovely corrugated dark green leaves. In late spring it produces small, tubular white flowers, followed in autumn by red fruit which ripen to black. It is a large shrub, so is best planted at the back of the border where the huge leaves can act as a foil for other plants.

  • Garden care: Requires minimal pruning. Where necessary remove any misplaced or diseased branches in mid-summer after flowering
  • Goes well with: Epimedium x perralchicum 'Frohnleiten', Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae, Dryopteris filix-mas, Polygonatum odoratum, Astrantia major alba, Rosa rugosa var. alba.
