A popular late flowering hybrid rhododendron bearing flamboyant trusses of frilled funnel-shaped deep purple-blue flowers with a prominent purplish-black throat. 'Purple Splendour' is excellent for a shrub or mixed border with well-drained humus-rich acid soil. Coping well in full sun or partial shade for the best results water during dry spells and mulch in spring.
