This tough deciduous shrub becomes a blaze of colour when the crimson flowers open from dark buds in early summer. Each trumpet shaped flower is reasonably large and they are held in open trusses that pack quite a punch when in full bloom. Ideal for 'hot' themed borders or for adding a splash of colour to an open woodland. Alternatively pot them up using ericaceous compost and keep them on a prominent spot on the patio.
- Garden care: Avoid planting too deeply. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of leaf mould around the base of the plant each spring.
