A bushy perennial topped with bright golden-yellow flower- heads in August and September. Golden rod is perfect for the middle of a sunny well-drained border or wild garden. Providing interest when many summer-flowering perennials are coming to a close the brashy blooms are both attractive to bees and make excellent cut-flowers.

  • Garden care: Apply a generous 5-7cm mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring. Support with ring stakes or brushwood before the flowers appear. After flowering cut back and compost the faded flower-heads to prevent the plant from self-seeding
