Heart-shaped mid-green leaves form a creeping carpet which in spring is dotted with rich bright blue forget-me-not-like flowers. This vigorous perennial is an excellent ground cover plant for a partially shaded woodland garden. Thriving in moist, moderately fertile humus-rich soil it's also perfect for carpeting areas between deciduous shrubs and trees and filling gaps at the front of the border.

  • Garden care: Incorporate lots of well-rotted leafmould, farmyard manure or garden compost when planting. Lift and divide congested colonies in spring.
