Native to Madeira and the Canary Islands this cranesbill is hardy and perennial in the milder southern counties where it will seed around given good drainage and shelter. Striking glossy green foliage suffused with red in colder weather and long branched flowering stems with masses of pink-magenta flowers can grow to 150cm in height and width.

  • Garden care: Some protection from severe frosts may be necessary during winter using a framework of canes surrounded with fleece and stuffed with straw or bracken. Container grown plants should be placed in a cool sheltered site such as a cold greenhouse or cold frame.
