Masses of rich purple flowers create vibrant blasts of spring colour. It looks fab when allowed to tumble over the edge of a raised bed or provide ambling ground cover through an alpine bed. Flourishing in moderately fertile, well-drained neutral or alkaline soil, this is an especially free-flowering variety.

  • Garden care: In a cold frame or unheated greenhouse surface sow the seeds onto trays filled with good quality compost and water well. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin out and pot on individually. Once well established, harden off and plant them out in a sunny spot allowing 30cm between each. Cutting the plants back hard after they have finished flowering will help keep them bushy - and may encourage a second flush of flowers.

  • Sow: February-June or September-October
