Sow thinly from March to April in well prepared soil 13mm deep in drills 45cm apart. Thin the seedlings when large enough to handle to 5cm apart for smaller bulbs or 7-10cm apart for larger bulbs. They will be ready to crop in August or September. When ready to harvest lift the onions on a dry sunny day and allow the surface soil to dry off. Store the fully ripened sound bulbs in nets or trays and you can use them throughout the autumn and winter.
