This stunning ornamental onion forms rounded flowerheads in early summer which can grow up to 10cm across and have a distictive raised tuft of flowers or 'forlock' on top. Ideal for adding structural interest to a mixed border the flowers also make long lasting additions to cut flower arrangements and keep their shape for some time after being dried. Since the leaves die back before the flowers emerge its best planted with other medium sized herbaceous perennials such as sea-holly which will help to mask the faded foliage.
- Garden care: Split and divide large clumps in autumn or spring
