A native wildflower of open meadows in California and Mexico this gorgeous annual is really quite showy when planted in bold swathes. The green filigree foliage occasionally takes on reddish tints and forms a low carpet from which tall flowerspikes emerge. These upright stems are topped with tight fan-shaped clusters of tubular violet blue flowers from late spring to summer.
