The stunning colourful displays of these tender climbers are produced by modified bracts, just like the Poinsettia. Large clusters of these bracts surround, small, insignificant flowers.
Bougainvillea are not suitable for growing outdoors in the U.K. but if grown under glass in a container they can be stood outside on a sunny patio during the warmer summer months.
The modified bracts of Bougainvillea can be white, purple-pink, yellow or scarlet.
Bougainvillea should be fed on monthly basis during their growing season and it is important not to over water them during the dormant, winter months. Cut back long side shoots in spring or autumn to encourage new growths.
