Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ is an excellent small tree for gardens where space is at a premium.
Because of it’s strikingly upright habit Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ is sometimes referred to as the Beanpole Cherry. Young examples of this tree are very thin but as they mature they do begin to spread out.
Before it drops it’s leaves in autumn, Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ displays good autumn colour in shades of green, red, orange and yellow. Before the leaves unfurl in spring they are bronze coloured. But most gardeners grow Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ for the flower display towards the end of spring. Large groups of semi-double, light pink, scented flowers are produced on the vertical branches and sideshoots. The flowers are saucer-like and 4-5cm in diameter.
