This perennial grows from an underground tuber. Mature tubers are often large and flat. The ivy-like leaves of Cyclamen hederifolium vary in shape, sometimes being heart-shaped or sometimes more pointed and triangular. The leaves are dark green and marbled/pattered with white. During autumn, the flowers are produced. They are usually pink but there is also a species called albiflorum that has pure white flowers.
