This perennial is more commonly grown as an annual because it is not fully frost hardy. Mirabilis jalapa has bright green, ovate shaped leaves. Flowers are produced in summer and vary in colour, sometimes there can be more than one of the following colours on the same plant: Magneta, yellow, white, red or pink. New flowers are produced towards the end of each day and are spent by the following morning hence the other common name for this plant: Four O’Clock Plant.
