Sudden blight on lawn

Hi-I wonder if anyone can tell me what has happened to my lawn?

An area about 2 feet x 12 inches has suddenly died and gone straw coloured. It is as if someone has poured weedkiller over it(I am sure this has not happened).
I do have badgers sometimes in the garden(and they dig up the lawn and cause serious damage which I have to repair) and I wondered if their urine could have caused this? Alternatively is there a known grass disease which can strike so quickly?
(Unfortunately I can't post a picture)

Grateful for your advice please.

Hi all
I think I may have found the answer to my own question about the sudden appearance of yellow patches on the lawn! :)

I suspect it may be leatherjackets (the larvae of crane fly or daddy longlegs). So I plan to wait until spring and then treat the lawn with an antidote- i.e. nematodes which I understand need the soil temperature to be around 12 degrees.

Will report in due course but still want advice about badgers ploughing up lawn please! :(
