Hi. new to the forum and in need of some advice.

Over the last view months Harvey has developed some white stuff on his leaves, looks like some sort of calcium deposits. I'm worried as its started to affect his new growth ( see link ) :(

He's about a year old, I feed him with water every 2 weeks and mist him every other day and sometimes maybe once a month fertalise him with some B & Q product that came with him.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hello,

I think this could be a Mealy Bug attack. I found this photo on google images
http://www.uky.edu/Ag/IPM/sponsprj/coun ... lybugs.jpg

See if the photo has any resemblance to the deposits on your plant.

Try cleaning off the white deposits with a wipe and if new ones appear do the same again. If the problem persists, you may need to purchase an insecticide that will deal with mealybugs.

Is the watering regime correct, you should be watering the plant a lot at the moment, and very little during the winter months. It seemed quite dark in the photo, is the plant getting enough sunlight? Although full sun is not ideal, dappled shade is perfect.

Thanks for the advice Guru

Could be a bug attack, the deposits do look similar but not exactly the same.

The plant has been in good health untill now, he seems like hes getting enough water as his leaves are all green at the tips.

He does get light but perhaps not as much as he should.

I thought it could be something in the water(tap) I have been spraying him with, you know like what you get in the inside of a kettle. But now that his new growth is danaged I think i will get some insecticide.

I hope its not to late :(

If you would rather use a biological control to combat a mealy bug attack you can purchase the following product via our website.
