Q: How can I get tomatoes to ripen quicker?

FAQ item image
Once September comes, it really is time to start pushing any unripe tomatoes along a bit. One way of ripening tomatoes more quicly at this time of year is to strip most of the foliage from the plants. This exposes the fruits to much more sunlight and they will ripen much more quickly.

Another option is to cut un-ripe trusses off and take them indoors, put them in the fruit bowl with other riper fruits. Ripe fruits give off Ethylene gas which will make the green tomatoes ripen more quickly.
